Military pay Freeze
Somehow I missed this in the news, but a friends blog brought it to my attention
Presidential Panel: Freeze Military Pay
November 11, 2010
Stars and Stripes|by Jeff SchogolA presidential commission on reducing the deficit has recommended freezing basic military pay and housing allowances for three years starting in 2011, according to a draft report of the commission’s recommendations posted online Wednesday.
“A three-year freeze at 2011 levels for these compensation categories would save the federal government $7.6 billion in compensation and tax expenditures, as well as another $1.6 billion in less retirement accrual, or $9.2 billion total discretionary savings in 2015,” it said.
Just exactly how is freezing the pay of some of the hardest working people we have a good idea. It`s not supposed to effect Combat Pay fortunately, but good grief, soldiers don`t get much as is. Its like a Union Job, the Brass take their cut and the Soldiers get whats left and just ask any soldier just how big the paycheck is in the end.
Hard enough coming home and finding housing and a job even worse when you have next to nothing in savings because your paycheck sucks.
Theres also the fact that many of our Military Personnel are supporting families at home while overseas, in this economy that ain`t easy, prices always going up and now they want to freeze paychecks at these dismal levels?
Write your Reps your Senators, Obama himself even. They want to save money Congress can take a pay cut. Damn near half of them are millionaires anyway.
Support our Troops in supporting themselves and their Families. They fight for us lets fight for them.
I am neither endorsing nor condemning the current War or any other Military Actions the U.S is currently involved in with this post. .
