What Jesus means to me

Hey at least I aint talkin about God this time and don’t blame Me, someone else got me thinkin on it and I want to try and explain a little.

Jesus was a philosopher beyond his time and lived much of his adult life as the very Definition of a Humanitarian. I don’t go so much for all the mysticsm surrounding him though.

Maybe he had some tricks maybe not, my thoughts on that are irrelevant to this post so won’t get into that. The philospher not the “Messiah” is what I’m focusing on here.

One main quote of his sticks with me and I find it exists, in essence in almost every Religion on Earth.

” Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Many take that literally, as if Jesus is some cosmic doorman and you don’t get into Heaven if your not on his guest list. There are also those that  seem to be trying to  slip a proverbial ‘fifty’ in his palm too.

I take this line as a metaphor used to explain a philosophy.

Truth is nothing New, even deep spiritual Truth existed as far back as the first woman or man to look at the sky and simply ask “whats it all about?”

The Life, well if your reading this your most likely Alive, but I take The Life he mentions in that line as, a Life lived in the pursuit and understandng of the aforementioned Truth.

I don’t need a dead guy to show me these things, if Jesus really is out and about in some ethereal form lending people a hand, he’s pretty busy already and I don’t want to be a bother. I can have a life in which I seek truth without his direct assistance.

I see the Truth everywhere already, I don’t always recognize it, but it’s there and no amount of asking Jesus to Save me is going to make a difference in my ability to see it if I am too stubborn to accept what I see.

Many so-called “Saved” are blind as one eyed bats anyway. They see nothing beyond whats written in their little Holy Book. That is Not the Life Jesus meant, at least not from what I’ve read in that little Holy Book.

It’s too narrow a view, too confined to the image of a world that hasn’t existed in over two thousand years. I’m not saying it’s all Bad, it’s just that you can’t view the world Today thru the eyes of an ancient society who’s members would die of Shock if you dropped them in Times Square on a saturday night.

Besides, Jesus taught a New Way of thinking and living. He re-defined the original Holy Books that the Jews had lived by for centuries. Jesus was all about having a progressive way of thinking.

The Truth and Life I see in Jesus’s words is a life of progressive understanding. A life lived with your inner eye open and your heart listening for something only it can hear.

I don’t need Religion for that and looking for some guy who may or may not exist in some spiritual form is a waste of time. The Truth is out there, you just have to accept that it may not look like what you think it should.

I see the Truth and the Life in the eyes of my baby girl, wanting to know Everything there is to know, even though she can’t even talk yet.

I see Jesus in the woman that stops to hand the homeless man a dollar with a smile, just because she cares, no other reason no reward, she just cares.

Jesus is alive in everyone to some degree, maybe not in the sense of an actual being living in our hearts. But definatly in the sense that all of us are at least Capable of caring, giving , loving and making sacrifices for others without thinking “what’s in it for me?”
